Lebanon finishes busy weekend 4-0

Apr. 13—It was a challenging weekend for the Lebanon softball team.

The Tigers played four games in a little more than 24 hours, but got the job done in all four contests, making it a 6-0 week and improved to 10-2 on the season.

"I am proud of our pitching," Lebanon head coach Robert Archambeau said. "Between Krryn Miller and Miley Wilhoite, they really started things in the circle and showed a lot of mental toughness. Our batters really wanted to pay it forward and help the pitchers and defensively we made smart decision and it worked out for us."

Miller appeared in all four games, pitching 24 innings and allowing just 12 hits and three earned runs.

Wilhoite started the the first game Saturday, pitching four innings.

With the Invitational set-up, the Tigers got a chance to see some different teams they normally wouldn't get a chance to face throughout the year.

They played some teams they normally see in Brebeuf and Lafayette Jeff, but also faced Knox and Wapahani.

"This event is fantastic, with eight teams from all over the state of Indiana," Archambeau said. "Every one had a great time, and the athletic department made sure the fields were really and it was a great day of softball."

The Tigers came back to top Brebeuf 11-4 on Friday night, then won three close games on Saturday — topping Knox 6-4, Lafayette Jeff 3-1 and Wapahani 4-1.

With match-ups with Western Boone, Valparaiso and Tri-West looming in the next couple of weeks, Archambeau said it was good to have close games that forced the Tigers to execute in key situations.

"That was really important," Archambeau said. "We have Western Boone next week and we added Valparaiso to the schedule. We have some big challenges ahead, and this tournament really helped us put our goals in line for the challenges ahead."

Along with the solid pitching, the Tigers had some clutch hitting throughout the day on Saturday.

Seven players in the line-up had at least three hits on the day, and everyone scored a run or had an RBI.

"We had different players stepping up in different games and everyone contributed in some way," Archambeau said. "We were able to link enough positive things together to get the wins."

The Tigers are scheduled to face Western Boone Tuesday.

"Rest is important so it will be good for them to get the rest of the night off then Sunday," Archambeau said. "Western Boone is a heck of a program and really well coached. That game is always close and we are going to focus on doing the right things in the best way possible, staying focused and making sure we have a good softball IQ."
