Headlines

Bubble watch

With one week left, the playoff picture for Lenawee County seems pretty clear.

Addison (8-0), Adrian (6-2), Clinton (7-1), Hudson (7-1) and Lenawee Christian (8-0) can all rest easy knowing they will be playing postseason football in two weeks.

Blissfield, Sand Creek and Tecumseh are all 4-4, but also appear to be in good shape going into Week 9.

The Royals, despite the upset loss to Onsted, is still 20th in Division 7 and even a loss to Madison might not be enough to knock them out with 31.5 points (6.375 points ahead of first team out Houghton Lake).

The Aggies are 25th in Division 8 with 26.458 points (2.546 ahead of Saginaw Nouvel) and will wrap up TCC play with 3-5 Erie Mason at home next week.

Tecumseh is 27th in Division 4 with 43.732 points (5.232 ahead of Hamilton) and will be at Bay City John Glenn, which is 2-6.

Home sweet home

While Addison, Adrian, Clinton, Hudson and Lenawee Christian all are in, it doesn't mean those teams don't have something play for in Week 9.

All of them could host the first week of the playoffs.

Adrian might need a win at Flint Kearsley if the Maples want to be home for the playoffs as Chelsea and Carleton Airport, both teams who were projected to be paired with Adrian in districts, leapfrogged the Maples.

If Addison can beat Napoleon in the inaugural Cascades Conference championship game, the Panthers will surely host a game in the playoffs. Hudson is ranked right in front of Addison at the moment and a win at Clinton to share the LCAA could mean another game at Thompson Field for the Tigers.

In Division 8, home field is key with reigning champion Whiteford sitting on top again in playoff points and very well could match up with Addison and Hudson in the districts.

The area is tough in Division 7 as well, with Jackson Lumen Christi and Napoleon both sitting ahead of Clinton and Monroe SMCC a few spots behind. If the Redwolves lock up the LCAA for back-to-back seasons against Hudson, Wegner Stadium should be busy in Week 10 as well.

Lenawee Christian head coach Bill Wilharms talked to a few Pittsford players after the 41-0 win Friday and had a message for them: Go beat Climax Scotts. LCS has a tough matchup at Kingston on Saturday while Pittsford takes on Climax Scotts, which is nipping at the Cougars' heals for home field advantage throughout the playoffs.

Cougars in control

Lenawee Christian wrapped up the SCAA East Division title this week with a 41-0 victory. It gave the Cougars their fifth conference title in the past six years.

LCS won the SCAA in the final two seasons of 11-man, tying in 2018 and outright in 2019. The success carried over to 8-man where they won the title in 2020 and 2021 before relinquishing it in 2022.

The SCAA was shuffled this season, splitting east and west, meaning LCS no longer had Colon and Climax Scotts on the schedule and next season it appears the Cougars will join fellow TCC members Morenci and Britton Deerfield in the Tri-River conference.

Regardless of what the conference has looked like the past six seasons, LCS has been in the mix going 24-3 in league games since 2018 and 46-4 in the regular season in that span.
