It's league championship time: here's where all the locals will be playing for the title

It’s tournament time. Starting today, and running through next week, our local teams will be eyeing their league crown and looking for the hardware to put into the school's trophy case.

After some standout seasons, here’s a look at where our local teams will be playing in the Eastern Connecticut Conference and Connecticut Technical Conference spring playoffs.

The ECC baseball tournament is returning to Dodd Stadium this year while the Division I Northeast Conference collegiate tournament takes place at Dutchess Stadium in Wappingers (N.Y.). There will be four quarterfinal games at Dodd Stadium on Wednesday, May 24.

The ECC baseball tournament does not split into Division 1 and Division 2 tournaments.

The Connecticut Technical Conference softball tournament championship game will be played at Albertus Magnus College in New Haven, while the CTC baseball tournament championship returns to Palmer Field in Middletown.

ECC

The first round matchups for the ECC baseball tournament on Tuesday, May 23 (all games at 4 p.m.)  include: No. 14 Norwich Free Academy at No. 3 St. Bernard, No. 13 Fitch at No. 4 Plainfield, No. 11 Killingly at No. 6 Lyman, and No. 9 Griswold at No. 8 Bacon Academy.

The quarterfinals take place Wednesday, May 24 at Dodd Stadium (11:00 a.m., 1:30 p.m., 4:00 p.m., 6:30 p. m.). The semifinals are Thursday, May 25 at Dodd Stadium (4 p.m., 6:30 p.m.). The championship game is Friday, May 26 at Dodd Stadium (6 p.m.).

CTC

Norwich Tech travels to Cheney Tech on Monday hoping to advance to Wednesday’s semifinals. The CTC championship game takes place on Friday, May 26 at Palmer Field in Middletown.

Baseball notebook: Plainfield edges Griswold. Here's what else happened this week

Softball

ECC

Plainfield and Griswold play on Tuesday in the quarterfinals of the ECC Division 1 and Division 2 tournaments. Griswold travels to St. Bernard, while Plainfield hosts Wheeler. The semifinals take place on Wednesday, May 24 at Griswold High School (11 a.m., 1:30 p.m., 4:00 p.m., 6:30 p.m.). Norwich Free Academy will meet the winner of Fitch and East Lyme in one semifinal. The championship games are Thursday, May 25 at Griswold High School (D2 at 4:30 p.m. D1 at 7:00 p.m.).

CTC

No. 2 Norwich Tech hosts Goodwin Tech on Monday, while No. 6 Ellis Tech travels to Wilcox Tech hoping to advance to Wednesday’s semifinals. The CTC championship game takes place on Friday, May 26 at 3:45 p.m., at Albertus Magnus College in New Haven.

Boys Lacrosse

No. 3 Norwich Free Academy meets No. 2 Stonington in the semifinals on Tuesday, May 23 at 5 p.m. The winner faces the winner of East Lyme versus Waterford in the championship on Thursday, May 25 at 5 p.m. at Waterford High School.

Boys Tennis

The ECC Boys Tennis Tournament will be held at East Lyme High School on Monday and Tuesday beginning at 3 p.m. The finals will be held on Wednesday, May 24 at 3 p.m. at Stonington High School.

Girls Tennis

The ECC Boys Tennis Tournament will be held at East Lyme High School on Monday and Tuesday beginning at 3 p.m. The finals will be held on Wednesday, May 24 at 3 p.m. at Stonington High School.

Boys Golf

The ECC Boys Championship Golf Tournament takes place on Thursday, June 1 at Quinnatissett Country Club in Thompson at 12:30 p.m.

Girls Golf

The ECC Girls Championship Golf Tournament on Wednesday, May 31 at Connecticut National in Putnam at 12 p.m.

Unified Outdoor Track

The ECC Unified Outdoor Track Tournament will be held at NFA on Tuesday, May 23 at 3 p.m.
