Laura Mealer of Middle Tennessee State transfers to Tennessee softball

Middle Tennessee State infielder Lauren Mealer has committed to Tennessee softball.

"After 2 memorable years at MTSU, I have decided continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Tennessee!!," Mealer wrote on Twitter.

Mealer, who played four years on the softball and basketball teams at Forrest High School in Chapel Hill, Tennessee, is a candidate to fill the hole that second baseman Lair Beautae leaves after announcing her decision to enter the transfer portal.

Mealer played a significant role with the Blue Raiders over the last two seasons, starting 115 games with a .371 average, 85 RBIs and 22 home runs.

Mealer hit .388 with 57 RBIs and 12 homers, one of three players who started every game for the Blue Raiders this season.

She led MTSU in batting average, hits, doubles, home runs and RBIs.

Mealer hit two home runs in the Tuscaloosa Regional on two separate occasions against No. 5 Alabama.

Mealer moves on to the Lady Vols (51-10), who advanced to the national semifinals of the Women's College World Series.
