Larry French column: Stermer, Brion set season highs at Crystal Lanes. See latest scores

One more strike is all John Stermer and Paul Brion needed to crack the 800 barrier at Crystal Lanes. Despite not carrying one more pocket hit, John and Paul did set season highs for the bowling season.

John Stermer came flying out of the blocks in the Chilson-Wilcox Senior Men’s League with a 279 game. And there would be more of that later. After slowing down just a bit in game two with a 228, John matched that first game magic with another 279 game for a 786 series, which is the best score for the seniors this season.

The C-W League nearly had another seven shooter but they settled for seven guys over the 600 mark. Mike Dunn was the near miss with a 695 series on games of 226, 201 and 268. Teammates Mike Donovan and Tim DeGraw were next with scores of 642 and 632 respectively. Ken Crozier three deuced a 629 while Steve Crozier carded a 622 and Gary Gustin tossed a 609. Mike Goltry rounded out the six shooters in this league with a 606 total.

There would be an even dozen seniors sixes with three other leagues checking in. Gary Gustin topped the Striking Seniors League with a 649 that featured a 267 game and Ken Crozier tossed a 625. Don Pierce’s 622 series, that included a 258 game, led the way in the Go-Getters League and Roger Cawley joined him with a 605 courtesy of a 244 game. Bill Sullivan rounded out the senior dozen when he paced the Sunshiners League with a 616 set that was highlighted by a 253 game.

One more strike for two different reasons kept Paul Brion from two honor scores in the Hatfield Real Estate League. After kicking off the action with a 249 game, Paul carried eleven shots in a row before a lazy ten-pin stood and left him with a 299 game. Perfection will have to wait. A couple of lost hits in game three left him with a 245 nightcap to finish with a 793 series. Despite missing the magic eight, his 793 set is the best of the season to date.

The Hatfield League also had five other bowlers over the 700 mark. Tim DeGraw led that group by capping a 740 set with a 279 game. Bob Putman also came close to perfection when he opened his 710 series with a 299 game. Teammate Bob Cevette was right behind him with a 709 while Al Farr reached 706 and Bruce Stanton snuck in a 702 series.

A couple of 268 games boosted two bowlers well over the 700 mark in the Tire World Men’s League. Steve Annis nailed one of those games on his way to leading the league with a 753 series while Max Dunning capped his 750 set with the other. Four others just made it over the 700 mark. Jim Sjoblom hit 706 while Jared Kucko nailed a 703 and Mike Kosinski tossed a 702. Al Farr completed the foursome with a 701 series.

In other men’s action, Josh Ballance blasted a 268 game on his way to a 758 series to pace the Ruth Briggs Memorial Mixed League while Nate Johnson topped the Joey’s Contracting Mixed League with a 723 series and Al Farr led the Gary Cortright Memorial Mixed League with a 702 total.

Anita Gennosa was a like a fine wine in the ‘The L’ Ladies League. She got better as the night got older. Anita opened the night with a 212 game, tacked on dozen pins in game two for a 224 and added a baker’s dozen in game three for a 237. That 673 series was enough to get her scoring honors for the ladies this week.

Three other ladies topped six in ‘The L’ League. After a mediocre start, Jean Blauvelt went on the attack and finished a 662 series with games of 258 and 246. Deon Frost came away with a 624 set on the strength of a 233 game and Gwen Bain capped a 605 series with a 247 game.

A couple of ladies topped the 600 mark in the Fall Adult/Junior Mixed League. Terrah Sargent tallied a 261 game on her way to a 627 series while Meghan Sturdevant capped a 640 set with a 235 game. In other ladies action, Heather Farr step-laddered her way to a 636 with games of 213, 212 and 211 in that order and Hailey Blencowe topped the Savona Storage Ladies League with a 628 that included a 228 game.

Junior bowlers at Crystal Lanes are still finding the lanes much to their liking as they turned in two more 700s and eight other scores over 600 in two different leagues.

Cameron Kennedy continued his assault on the pins in the Fall Adult/Junior Mixed League with another seven. This time he rattled off games of 256, 289 and 180 for a 725 series. In that same league Peyton Nelson rode games of 234 and 232 to a 630 while Zach Sturdevant posted a 608 set and Camryn Stefanini highlighted a 600 with a 238 game.

In the CIBA Jr./Sr. Mixed League, Camryn Stefanini garnered his first 700 of the season while five other youngsters topped the 600 mark. Camryn kicked things off with a 256 game and came home with singles of 241 and 222 for a 719 series.

Cameron Kennedy led the 600 junior parade in this league with a 695 series that featured a 258 game. Not far behind him was Zach Sturdevant with a 684 set that included a 237 game. Noah Cady notched a 669 series with a lot of help in the form of a 267 game while Zack Crown sacked a 629 series and Peyton Nelson came up with a 610 series.
