Lakeview's Avery Russell is Enquirer Athlete of the Week winner for Oct. 30-Nov. 4
The fans have spoken.
The winner of the latest Enquirer Athlete of the Week fan poll is Avery Russell of the Lakeview girls swim team.
Fans got behind Russell to help her edge fellow Athlete of the Week finalists Makenzee Grimm, Callie Slayton and Camille Robinson. Russell received 52% of the vote by the 5 p.m. Wednesday deadline. Thanks to her fans, she will receive an Enquirer Athlete of the Week T-shirt.
Lakeview finished fifth in the Southwestern Michigan Athletic Conference Championships in girls swimming on Saturday. Lakeview's Avery Russell had two individual all-league performances on the day as she was second in the 500 freestyle in 5:22.03 and fourth in the 200 free in 2:01.34. Russell was also part of a third-place 200 freestyle relay and a fifth-place 400 relay.

"Avery is incredibly hard working and takes a lot of pride in doing challenging things. It’s no surprise she was able to achieve two season-best times at the SMAC meet - earning her first team All-SMAC. Her performance this past weekend was encouraging as she will be competing against the best in the state next weekend at the Division 2 state championships," Lakeview swim coach Andy Fredenburg said.
