Lady Lakers enjoy 2022 season

Oct. 28—The Lady Lakers Golf League at Lake Junaluska Golf Course continues to grow with four new members this year.

The league begins in mid-April each year and continues through early October.

League members sign up each week through email correspondence for league play every Friday. Teams are organized, tee times appointed and, prior to play, a short meeting is held for discussion and handing out awards.

Awards go to winners from the previous week in categories for birdies, chip-ins and lowest putts. At the end of the season, there is an optional ringer award. Luncheons and award banquets are also enjoyed by all participants.

The league hosted the club championship Aug. 5 and 12 this year. The championship title went to Karen Niebalski. Second place went to Janie Grove and third place was a tie between Betty Henderson and Sue Alderman.

This year's handicap tournament was held July 29. The winner was Teresa Liner, who is chairperson of the tournaments. Liner comes up with themes and adventures on the course. Second place was a tie between Sue Alderman and Spanky Wilson, while third place went to Marti Gibson.

The only hole-in-one this year went to Sue Alderman, who aced on hole No. 5.

The door is open for new members to join for 2023.

Membership is $25 for the entire season. Players must have a handicap or set up one to join.

Current charges for the GHIN system is $25 a year. This system monitors handicaps and provides valuable information. Golf fees for play vary each year, but discounts are set for League players.

Those interested in joining can call Lake Junaluska Golf Club at 828-456-5777. The league is also on Facebook at Lady Lakers Golf of Lake Junaluska.
