Lady Chargers win sectional title

Oct. 16—HANOVER — Heading into Saturday's volleyball action at the Southwestern (Hanover) Sectional, the Lady Chargers needed to win six sets to claim the sectional title. North Decatur only needed to play seven sets to make it happen.

The Lady Chargers rolled to a win over Switzerland County 25-10, 25-12 and 25-7 in the semifinal. In the night cap, North rallied from a set down to knock off South Ripley 18-25, 25-15, 25-12 and 25-15 to win the sectional championship.

In the semifinal win over the Lady Pacers, North put away 33 kills. Senior Ella Kunz led the way with 10 kills. Sydney Rohls added seven kills. Madi Allen and Miley Scudder both had six kills. Annie Waechter added four kills.

Rohls served a team-high six aces. Kelsey Haley set the offense with a team-high 30 assists.

Hannah Gorrell led the Lady Charges with eight digs and Kunz led North with two blocks.

After dropping the first set in the title match, North took the next three sets by at least 10 points to roll to the title.

North had 45 kills in the win led by Scudder with 14, Kunz with 10 and Rohls with 10. Allen added seven and Haley had one. Haley dished out 36 assists to lead North.

Allen served four of North's six aces in the match.

Kunz was tough at the net, collecting 10 total blocks. Allen and Rohls both finished with three total blocks. Waechter finished with two blocks and Haley and Scudder both had one.

Gorrell picked up a team-high 24 digs. Allen finished with 22. Haley had 12 digs and Clare Kinker had 11 digs.

The Lady Chargers (21-11) will face Brownstown Central (21-13) in the second semifinal at approximately 1 p.m. at Mitchell. The first regional match at 11 a.m. pits North Posey (28-6) against Linton-Stockton (29-4).

Batesville Sectional

BATESVILLE — The Lady Bulldogs earned a spot in the sectional championship with a 25-15, 25-12 and 25-23 win over Greensburg. The Lady Pirates end the season at 14-16.

For the Lady Bulldogs, Alyson Peters led the attack with eight kills. Grace Walter and Maggie Wilson both had seven kills. Reesa Zimmerman added six kills. Brooke Wilhelm handed out 16 assists and Ava Powner added 13 assists. Isabelle Wonnell finished with a team-high 16 digs.

For Greensburg, Claire Nobbe finished with a team-high eight kills. Mya Comer added seven kills and Claire Larrison had three kills. Mya Comer served three aces and had nine assists. Averi Helms added eight assists. Rylee Hofer had a team-high three total blocks. Carmin Ripperger had a team-high 13 digs.

The Lady Bulldogs lost three tight sets to Lawrenceburg in the sectional final 25-23, 27-25 and 25-21.

Peters led the offensive attack with 10 kills. Sophie Gesell and Walter both had seven kills. Powner dished out 17 assists and Wilhelm added 11 assists. Maggie Wilson had a team-high 14 digs and Wonnell finished with 12 digs. Madelyn Haskamp had a team-high four total blocks.

Batesville ends the season at 24-8.

Waldron Sectional

WALDRON — For the first time since 2006, the Lady Twisters of Oldenburg Academy are the volleyball sectional champions.

The Lady Twisters defeated Morristown in the semifinal 25-19, 25-17 and 25-20.

Kate Weber led the Lady Twisters with 14 kills. Rachel Suttmann was next for Oldenburg with 12 kills. Kenlee Martin dished out 24 assists to lead the Lady Twisters. Weber added 14 assists.

Defensively, Weber had 21 digs followed by Lilly Schebler 20 and Lily Dennis 13. Chloe Bohman led OA with five total blocks.

In the other semifinal, South Decatur defeated Waldron 25-19, 25-22, 19-25 and 25-15.

In the title match, OA defeated South 25-14, 25-19, 21-25 and 25-23. The Lady Cougars finish the season at 17-8.

For OA, Weber led the Lady Twisters with 17 kills. Suttmann tallied 14 kills. Bohman had a team-high seven total blocks. Martin had 25 digs followed by Weber with 29 and Schebler with 18. Martin dished out 29 assists.

Oldenburg (26-7) takes on Greenwood Christian Academy (22-13) in the second semifinal at noon at the Edinburgh Regional. In the first semifinal, Tecumseh (29-4) faces Lanesville (20-10)
