Blogging for cover32.com is often a treat. It combines two of my favorite things: football and writing. Sometimes, when I am very fortunate, another one of my favorite things gets thrown into the mix completely out of happenstance. This is the second time that Game of Thrones has made an appearance in the world of the Chicago Bears, so, of course, I have to jump on the opportunity.

Yesterday, Kyle Long was on NFL.com being interviewed by Dave Dameshek. Eventually, as NFL pundits are wont to do, Dameshek shifted the conversation toward Long’s perception of the polarizing and ineffable Jay Cutler. Long explained that Cutler is misunderstood and silent and cerebral and witty and blah and blah and blah and they watch Game of Thrones together at Jay’s house and – wait a second – what?

Yes, apparently Jay Cutler and Kyle Long watch GoT together. Oh, also they eat Whole Foods pizza and rotisserie chicken while they do it. Really, guys? You live in Chicago and go to Whole Foods to buy pizza? It’s called Lou Malnati’s. Put it in your face and after every bite be grateful that you have not been cut or traded from the Chicago franchise, so you can forever cherish the greatest pizza on the planet. Okay, that might be hyperbole, but it is really damned good.

In spite of their choice in pizza, I have new found respect for Long and Smokin’ Jay. Especially for Long, who made a prediction for who he thinks will conquer the Iron Throne without any spoilers! That’s as improbable as Devin Hester running back the opening kickoff of the Super Bowl XLI. That’s as improbable as 15-1 team winning a Super Bowl. That’s as improbable as… okay, you get the point.

I just hope the boys start inviting some fans to the Cutler resident on Sunday nights for charitable profit or something. I’d put up some big bills to do that. Hell, I’ll even pay for the Lou Malnati’s.
