As if his name didn’t already attract enough attention, University of Texas infielder Kody Clemens is stealing the spotlight in college baseball’s Austin Super Regional series.

Clemens, the youngest son of seven-time MLB Cy Young award winner Roger Clemens, has homered in the Longhorns past two games, and also put up a two-homer game against rival Texas A&M June 2.

His total of 23 on the season is now tied for second in all of college baseball – freshman Spencer Torkelson leads with 25. Clemens was drafted by the Detroit Tigers last week as the first pick of the third round (79th overall).

Lighting fires everywhere he goes

However, as he catches fire at the plate, Clemens is also igniting fires with his base-rounding antics. Against A&M, he stared into the opposing dugout as he rounded the bases:

After that incident, and the Longhorns’ ensuing win, Clemens’ coach said: “If you don’t like it, make a better pitch.”

With that incident certainly in mind, the feud with Tennessee Tech began Saturday. As Clemens rounded the bases, Tennessee players held up Texas’ signature “Hook’em Horns” – but upside-down.

Stare-down becoming Clemens’ signature move

Thus, in response Sunday, Clemens pointed the horns – right-side up – at the Tennessee dugout as he came down the third-base line.

His homer put Texas up 3-1.

If the Longhorns do advance to Omaha to play in the college World Series, be sure to keep your eye on The Rocket’s son as he perhaps earns his own nickname.
