Knicks among potential landing spots if Chris Paul hits free agency

Phoenix Suns guard Chris Paul (3) moves the ball ahead of Los Angeles Clippers guard Norman Powell (24) during the first half in game four of the 2023 NBA playoffs at Crypto.com Arena

The Phoenix Suns have reportedly informed point guard Chris Paul that they will waive him before the June 28 guaranteed date in his contract, making him one of the top free agents on the market this offseason.

If that does end up being the case, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reports that the Knicks will be among the potential landing spots for the 38-year-old.

“Look at the two teams in L.A., the Clippers and Lakers, the Knicks in New York, or the Golden State Warriors,” Woj said on Friday’s NBA Countdown. “Those would all be potential destinations for Paul, who would then sign a deal at a much lower number than the $30 million he’s guaranteed in Phoenix.”

Paul reportedly plans on playing for several more seasons and would like to join a contender. Signing in New York with the Knicks, who are trending in the right direction after reaching the second round of the playoffs this season, would certainly give him that opportunity.

The 12-time All-Star averaged 13.9 points, 8.9 assists, and 4.3 rebounds across 59 games this season.
