Kirk could be a top-five catcher rest of season

Christopher Crawford analyzes Toronto Blue Jays C Alejandro Kirk's start and if he is on his way to being a fantasy star.

CHRISTOPHER CRAWFORD: In a lineup that is loaded with superstars, it almost feels unfair that it looks like Toronto might have another one in Alejandro Kirk. Kirk homered in the final two games of the series against the Twins and he's now hitting .307 with an .860 OPS, along with 5 homers over his first 140 at bats. Those are quality numbers, but they don't really tell the story of how good Kirk has been for most of 2022.

He took a .584 OPS into the month of May, but he hit .347, .415, .569 over that month and he's carried it over into June with a 1.244 OPS over his first 4 games. And the advanced stats say that Kirk has earned those numbers and then some, much of it due to the fact that he's one of the most difficult hitters in baseball to strikeout right now, but also makes a ton of hard contact and is more than willing to get on via walk. On top of that, Kirk is one of the best framers of the baseball right, now so he's earning playing time with his glove and his bat. You can't expect Kirk to be this good for the rest of the season. But there's an awful lot to like in his profile and it's absolutely possible that he's one of the top 5 backstops for the remainder of 2022.
