Kevin Byard channels Terrell Owens, disrespects Cowboys star after interception

Week 9 is retro celebration week in the NFL.

New Orleans Saints receiver Michael Thomas busted out a flip phone in an ode to Joe Horn after scoring one of the biggest touchdowns of the season Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams.

Titans safety goes T.O. on Cowboys

Tennessee Titans safety Kevin Byard took his best shot at one-upmanship Monday, channeling Terrell Owens in the ultimate sign of disrespect at AT&T Stadium.

Byard intercepted Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott in the end zone in the first quarter and made a beeline to midfield where he stood arms spread wide on the Cowboys star at the 50-yard line.

It’s an ode to Owens, who famously pulled the move after scoring a touchdown while playing for the San Francisco 49ers in 2000.

Why Byard — a good safety on a bad football team playing in a game with relatively low stakes — chose to pull the move on Monday is unclear. Maybe there’s some old Cowboys animus in his blood.

Whatever the reason, it prompted some inevitable pushing and shoving at the star.

Owens chimes in

And it caught the attention of Owens himself.

Jason Witten not amused

Former Cowboys tight end Jason Witten, calling the game for “Monday Night Football,” was not amused.

“I don’t know that you want to do that,” Witten said. “I’m all in favor of the touchdown celebrations. I think it’s good for the game.

“Hey look, he’s in his third year. Do it for about five more years. Get seven or eight interceptions a year. Maybe you can do it at that point. Until then, I’d stay away from the star.”
