Kent Tekulve to be speaker at Reading Hot Stovers Banquet

Nov. 25—Kent Tekulve, a former relief pitcher for the Pittsburgh Pirates and Philadelphia Phillies, will be the third speaker at the 62nd annual Reading Hot Stovers Banquet on Jan. 18 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in Reading.

Tekulve will join seven-time All-Star closer Billy Wagner and three-time Olympic softball gold medalist Leah O'Brien-Amico as speakers. Wagner and O-Brien-Amico were previously announced.

Tekulve, a side-arming right-hander, was the closer for the 1979 World Series champion Pirates.

He was traded to the Phillies in April 1985 and pitched for Philadelphia through the 1988 season. He completed his big league career with the Cincinnati Reds in 1989.

In 16 big league seasons, he went 94-90 with a 2.85 ERA and 184 saves.

Doors for the banquet open at 5 p.m., with a cocktail hour starting at 5:15 p.m. The banquet starts at 6:30 p.m.
