Ken Seals to remain starting quarterback for Vanderbilt football vs. Ole Miss

Ken Seals will continue to start at quarterback for Vanderbilt football against Ole Miss coming out of the open week, coach Clark Lea said on the "Commodore Hour" radio show Monday night.

"We're going to stay the course with Ken," Lea said. " . . . We appreciate how he has managed the offense, how he has protected the ball on the whole, how he has led on the field and we're going to give him another opportunity at it. We hold the right to keep that competition going, and obviously we have belief in AJ (Swann) as well. It's just I think we've seen enough in the last few weeks to feel like Ken is stepping into some confidence, and we want him to continue to do that."

Vanderbilt, which is on a six-game losing streak, is 2-6 overall, 0-4 in the SEC. It faces No. 11 Ole Miss (6-1, 3-1) on Saturday at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium (6:30 p.m., SEC Network).

Seals took over as the starter for the Missouri game after Swann threw two pick-sixes the week before against Kentucky. Swann also was dealing with an elbow injury suffered against UNLV on Sept. 16. It is unclear whether the injury is still affecting him.

Overall, Swann is 93-for-173 with 11 touchdowns and seven interceptions. Seals is 65-for-105 with eight touchdowns and two interceptions.

Though Seals has been on the team since 2020, both players have two years of eligibility remaining. That leads to the question of whether Vanderbilt can retain both quarterbacks for another offseason. Seals is a senior academically and will graduate this year.
