Kelly Oubre Jr.'s NSFW fur coat has a message for you

Kelly Oubre Jr. wants everyone to peep the fur coat he wore to DC’s Verizon Center.

Kelly Oubre Jr. has had quite an eventful start to his third NBA season. One week after his rash decision to take a swing at a Golden State Warrior ended with him accidentally punching John Wall in the head and paying a $15,000 fine to the NBA, Oubre is under the NBA’s microscope again. This time, Oubre’s sartorial choices have drawn the league office’s ire.

Oubre arrived at the Verizon Center for their game against Cleveland with the swagger of a man ready to cut a wrestling promo and adorned in a black fur coat with “F— you” lettering stitched into the back. There’s so much to process here that it gets overlooked that he was also wearing newspaper pajamas beneath his coat. It could have been worse. At least it was too cool out for a RompHim.

Because of his choice of attire, the NBA is investigating Oubre for a possible dress code violation, which comes with a fine. It’s not quite clear how one investigates a fur coat, but it would be pleasant to imagine the Association employs actual Fashion Police detectives who will pour over photographic evidence.

Oubre, 22, is quickly emerging as one of the most eccentric young stars in the league and one of its most ticketed. Oubre has already been fined $15,000 for body-checking Kelly Olynyk in Game 3 of the Conference Semifinals series against Boston, $25,000 for kicking a basketball into the stands in 2016 and $25,000 for an obscene gesture during his rookie year. Fortunately, Oubre’s worth the trouble as his growing game is matching his increasingly brash persona.
