Update: Kellen Mond back with the Browns after Joshua Dobbs trade
Former third-round pick Kellen Mond was shown the door earlier on Thursday by the Cleveland Browns, only to be pulled off waivers later the same day. That’s a lot to handle emotionally over the course of a few hours and shows how cutthroat the NFL can be.
So, what changed? The Cleveland Browns decided to trade Josh Dobbs and a 2024 7th-round pick to the Arizona Cardinals for a 2024 5th-round pick. Now, the battle for the backup to Deshaun Watson is between the newly released and claimed Kellen Mond and rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson.
With the recent playing time breakdown and considering that Mond got released, the safe bet is that the DTR will get the nod when final cutdowns happen in the next week or so. However, this allows Mond to put more game tape out there for his next potential suitor if he hits the market.
After announcing they waived Kellen Mond earlier today, the #Browns have now pulled back that move and plan to keep him on the roster through the preseason, source says. Trading Josh Dobbs changed things and Mond should play this week.
