Kansas State women's basketball All-American Ayoka Lee sidelined with ankle injury
MANHATTAN — Just after achieving its best national ranking since the 2003-04 season, Kansas State women's basketball got some injury news Friday.
All-America center Ayoka Lee, who had helped lead the No. 7-ranked Wildcats to a 17-1 record and 6-0 start in the Big 12, will miss about four weeks after undergoing surgery on her ankle Friday morning, according to a K-State news release.
Lee, who missed all last season with a knee injury, hurt the ankle during a Jan. 10 victory over Oklahoma, but finished that game and then had 21 points and 10 rebounds last Saturday as the Wildcats edged No. 10-ranked Texas, 61-58.
A precautionary MRI taken on Thursday revealed a small fracture in her ankle.
Lee was off to a fast start this season, averaging 19.8 points on 67.7% shooting, along with 8.2 rebounds and 2.7 blocked shots. She ranks fourth in school history with 2,017 career points, second in rebounds with 1,034 and first in blocked shots with 284.
K-State will play host to Kansas (9-8, 2-4 Big 12) at 1 p.m. Saturday at Bramlage Coliseum in the first installment of the Sunflower Showdown. It will be the first game in a week for the Wildcats, whose scheduled game Wednesday at TCU was canceled when the Horned Frogs did not have enough healthy players available.
