Andy Reid addresses son Britt’s car accident after Super Bowl: ‘My heart bleeds for everybody involved’
Kansas City coach Andy Reid addressed the crash that his son and assistant coach Britt Reid was involved in on Thursday after the Chiefs’ 31-9 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Super Bowl LV on Sunday night.
Andy said he was thinking of the two children who were injured in the crash — especially the 5-year-old girl who is in critical condition.
“My heart goes out to all those that were involved in the accident, in particular the family with the little girl who is fighting for her life,” Reid said after the game.
“From a human standpoint, my heart bleeds for everybody involved.”
Britt, 35, was driving a pickup truck on Thursday night and slammed into two vehicles parked at the side of Interstate 435 near the team’s practice facility in the Kansas City area.
Britt, the Chiefs’ outside linebackers coach, was hospitalized with undisclosed injuries. A 4-year-old was injured in the collision, suffering non life-threatening injuries.
The 5-year-old remained in critical condition as of Sunday. A GoFundMe page for the child said that she “suffered swelling in the brain and bleeding around her brain,” and that “she hasn’t woken since the crash.”
Police are investigating Britt for suspicion of driving under the influence, as he reportedly told police that he had two or three drinks that night. He did not travel with the team to the Super Bowl.
