K-Beauty Brand Innisfree Launches 14 Diverse Shades of Cushion Foundation

Offering 14 different shades of foundation isn't exactly revolutionary when beauty brands like Fenty Beauty drop 40 right off the bat. (I'm still not over that range.) However, sometimes you have to consider the source. Innisfree, a Korean beauty brand based on Jeju Island, just launched two cushion foundations in, as mentioned, 14 shades.

Let's be real, cushion foundations from K-beauty brands typically only come in three or four shades. And all of those tend to be variations of beige. (Even Urban Decay's take on the trend only comes in four.) That range might make sense from a generalization standpoint, but it has created a barrier to entry for those with deeper skin tones who want to try out K-beauty products. Limited shade offerings is also part of the reason why you always hear about Korean skin care but never really about Korean makeup.

With Innisfree recently opening its first brick-and-mortar in New York City, as well as its online U.S. store, this step toward accessibility makes sense. The new product is even exclusive to America. Now, those who use foundation in the Cool Ivory to Chocolate range can customize their own cushion compact from Innisfree. (It offers dozens of compact designs to choose from. Naturally, my favorite is this one with lips all over it.) They can also choose between two finishes: matte and dewy.

Innisfree recently posted a picture of the complete shade range on its Instagram, and the feedback has been incredible. You can truly see why an inclusive selection of foundation hues matters. A user called cmckay2001 wrote, "ugh thank y’all so much for opening up to dark skin tones! i can’t wait to try out your products, and try out my very first cushion foundation!!" skin.walker followed this up with, "This is the first time i can actually buy a k product that's my correct skin color ! Thank you so muchhhh."

You can shop the Matte Full Cover Cushion and Aqua Fit Cushion now on innisfree.com for $12 each.
