Justin Lower eagles No. 18 for the second straight PGA tournament, misses cut this time

Justin Lower won't make the cut, but he may remember the 2023 Travelers Championship for a long time.

The former Northwest High School and Malone University golfer struggled through most of two rounds Thursday and Friday in Cromwell, Connecticut, falling out of contention to make the cut at 5-over par after the front nine of his second round.

On Friday's bogey-free back nine, though, Lower birdied No. 12, No. 13 and No. 16 before walking off with an eagle 2 on No. 18.

Lower cranked a 313-yard drive into the middle of the fairway and then holed his 120-yard second shot to finish the back nine with a 30.

His 36-hole score of 1-under par came up short of the cut line of minus-4 in the 156-man field.

Among players tearing up the TPC River Highlands course was Denny McCarthy, who took the lead at minus-15 and later was caught by Keegan Bradley.

Like Lower, McCarthy shot a 30 on the back nine Friday.

Lower was coming off a 25th-place finish in the Canadian Open, where he was among the leaders after the first day after he eagled No. 18.

The PGA Tour's next stop is next week's Rocket Mortgage Classic in Detroit. Prior to this week, Lower had made three of the last four cuts.
