JU opens second half on 5-0 surge to spark 17-12 victory over Robert Morris in ASUN tournament

Five players from Jacksonville University scored the first five goals of the second half to break an 8-8 tie and the Dolphins went on to beat Robert Morris 17-12 on Thursday in the first round of the ASUN men's lacrosse tournament at the U.S. Air Force Academy Falcon Field in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Sophomore midfielder Jack Taylor scored the go-ahead goal unassisted, 1:27 into the third quarter, to put JU (12-4) ahead for good. Sophomore Nicky Brown, junior Jackson Intrieri, senior Ibrahim Pio and senior Jacob Griener added the other goals during the streak, with Greiner assisting on Intrieri's goal.

Intrieri scored three goals and Taylor, Brown, Ibrahim and Greiner scored two each.

The Dolphins will play second-seeded Air Force (9-5) at 4 p.m. on Friday in the semifinals. Cleveland State (9-7), which defeated Bellarmine 15-12 in the other first-round game, will play top-seeded Utah (10-4) at 1 p.m.

Utah and Air Force had first-round byes. JU defeated Air Force 10-9 on April 20 in Colorado Springs.

Earlier in the day, Greiner and junior goalkeeper Ryan Della Rocca were named first-team All-ASUN in a vote of the conference coaches Taylor, Intrieri and seniors Tucker Garrity and Nathan Kaptt were named to the second team.
