Josh Jackson heading home, as Detroit Pistons to sign ex-lottery pick in NBA free agency

The Detroit Pistons' NBA free agency frenzy continues, and this time, they are bringing forward Josh Jackson home.

The Pistons will be signing Jackson, who grew up in Detroit, according to an ESPN report.

Jackson is the third reported signing by the Pistons, less than 2.5 hours into free agency negotiations, which began at 6 p.m. Jackson joins center Mason Plumlee and Jahlil Okafor.

Jackson, a former top high school recruit, has had a rough start to his career, after the Phoenix Suns took him fourth overall out of Kansas in the 2017 draft. The 6-foot-8, 207-pounder was dealt to the Memphis Grizzlies after two seasons with the Suns, then spent time in the G League. But he seemingly has started maturing and impressed after being called up by the Grizzlies.

In 22 games last season, he averaged nine points, three rebounds and 1.6 assists. Free agency deals can't become official until Sunday afternoon.

Jackson starred as a freshman and sophomore at Consortium College Prep in Detroit, leading the team to its first state title in his second year, before his family moved to California.

General manager Troy Weaver has had a busy week, making five trades before, during and after Wednesday's 2020 NBA draft.
