Jose Trevino, Nick Loftin make MLB Opening Day rosters

Two Corpus Christi-area baseball products have been named to 2024 Major League Baseball opening day rosters.

Catcher Jose Trevino was no surprise to make the New York Yankees roster after earning the American League Rawlings Platinum Glove in 2022 along with his first AL All-Star team selection, before an injury-shortened 2023 season.

The John Paul II graduate, who has six years of MLB service with the Yankees and Rangers, earned the start behind the plate on opening day against the Astros.

While Nick Loftin was regarded as one of the Royals' top prospects, he was not locked in to make Kansas City's big league team heading into Spring Training, but earned a spot on the opening day roster.

He is listed by the organization as an infielder, but will likely be used in a utility role as the former Ray standout and Baylor product has professional experience in the outfield as well.

Loftin hit .323 in 62 at-bats after being a late-season call-up for Kansas City last season.
