What Jonnu Smith thinks of Tua and how he wants to 'inflict his will' on opponents

Tight end Jonnu Smith believes he can be an important piece in the Dolphins' high-flying offense.

Hence, he joined Miami on a two-year deal in free agency.

"Add me to this offense, into the system, and into this team ultimately, I could be a solution and to help us get to where we want to go," Smith said Wednesday.

Where is that?

"An opportunity to go and win a world championship," Smith said.

Smith, 28, is an ideal fit for Mike McDaniel's offense.

He can catch. He can block. He can battle for yards after catch.

"Flashy highlights, yeah, but you've got to be able to bring a physical presence as well, to inflict your will on opponents," Smith said. "And be able to say this is the fourth quarter and guys are tired, and, you know, it's late in the year, and it's week 13,14, 15. And, you know, teams don't want to tackle. That's where we feast, man."

Smith had a career-high 582 yards for the Falcons last season.

He should complement tight end Durham Smythe well.

"You've got to be able to make plays from anywhere on the field," Smith said. "So, you know, that's just something that I pride myself on. And, you know, making sure that I'm an every-down player. And we can use me in any situation."

Smith should benefit from the presence of Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle.

"You're smiling from ear to ear, you know what I mean?" Smith said. "That's gonna' create a lot of space, man. Those two speed guys, man, you know, some of the fastest guys in NFL if not the fastest. That's going to cause so much havoc to the defense."

Smith said he was also smiling when watching the 2023 edition of "Hard Knocks."

It turns out McDaniel and his team left a positive impression.

"'Hard Knocks' told me a lot," McDaniel said. "It was it was a big help and helped me make my decision."

Smith says he's excited to work with Tua Tagovailoa.

"I think he's one of the top quarterbacks in this league," Smith said. "I think he's one of, if not the most accurate quarterback in this league."
