National Baseball Hall of Famer and former Cincinnati Reds great Johnny Bench was among those paying tribute via social media earlier this month to Stadtmiller, Bench's longtime friend and a popular Cincinnati radio DJ and executive who died at age 76.
Stadtmiller worked in sales for Clear Channel Radio and at WLWT-TV and WSAI-AM. Earlier, he worked for Taft Broadcasting and Avco Broadcasting. He was a radio personality at Q102 and 700 WLW.
Bench, who played for the Reds from 1967 to 1983, tweeted that he met Stadtmiller, an Ohio University graduate, in 1971. Stadtmiller worked at the time as an account executive for Avco, which was named Crosley Broadcasting Corporation until 1968.
From Bench via Twitter:
Jim Stadtmiller my longtime friend May the trip to see his maker. Aka The Squirrel, Jim found Christ years back and found joy in his Bible meetings and assisting any way he could at his church. I like so many others loved him. I met him in 1971 and will always appreciate our days

From Mo Egger via Twitter:
Was so sad to read this last night.
"Squirrel" was as good as they get. Don't think anyone I've met in radio had more stories. Grateful to have provided an audience for so many of them.
Rest easy, Jim Stadtmiller. https://t.co/Rq0VrFQHk8— Mo Egger (@MoEgger) June 14, 2022
