John Marshall boys basketball coach Patrick Cudjoe 'grateful' after 500th win

John Marshall boys basketball coach Patrick Cudjoe eclipsed 500 career wins last week in an 83-61 victory over Southeast.

The milestone win extended the Bears' four-game winning streak heading into the postseason.

"I would like to express my heartfelt appreciation for all of the congratulatory texts, calls, and posts commemorating my coaching milestone," Cudjoe said in a Facebook post. "I am grateful and humbled by your sentiments! Thank you!"

Cudjoe, in his 34th season, is one of the most highly regarded head coaches in the state. He became the 13th active coach in Oklahoma high school boys basketball to reach 500 career victories.

His coaching career began nearly 40 years ago at John Marshall, where he worked as an assistant on the Bears coaching staff. Shortly after, he spent ten years at Carl Albert and 14 years at Star Spencer as a head coach, where he won the Class 4A state championship in 2009.

Cudjoe returned to John Marshall in 2015 as the head coach and has won 144 games since. He led the Bears to the Class 5A state tournament during the 2018-19 season.

John Marshall (11-12, 8-6 District 5A-2) will open its postseason Thursday against Elgin at Carl Albert at 7:30 p.m. in a Class 5A regional tournament.
