Joe Burrow comments on Bengals promoting Dan Pitcher to offensive coordinator
Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow signs off on the coaching staff shuffle taking place this offseason on the offensive side of the ball.
Cincinnati, as expected, has promoted quarterbacks coach Dan Pitcher to offensive coordinator in the wake of Brian Callahan joining the Tennessee Titans as head coach.
Burrow provided a comment on the move Thursday when the team made it official: “Our relationship is as good as it gets. I wouldn’t be the player I am today without him. He’s been preparing for this for years. He takes his job very seriously and does it with a lot of passion.”
A former scout hired by Marvin Lewis and retained by Zac Taylor, Pitcher was the obvious in-house replacement for Callahan should this scenario ever occur. His involvement with Burrow’s development, third-down installs and the overall offense made it obvious — and is also the reason he had teams after him last offseason and three interviews lined up with other teams this week.
Now, Pitcher and Burrow have effectively come up together and the plan has fallen into place as expected.
“And to be working for really good people who want to see you succeed, and in turn you try to provide value for them in a role like this,” Pitcher said. “I think it’s pretty special. This is what I was hoping for all along.”
