Jimmies men's volleyball start off hot with sweep over Judson

Jan. 25—ELGIN, Ill. — The No. 13-ranked University of Jamestown men's volleyball team started its season with a dominant sweep over Judson University (25-17, 25-16, 25-13) on Thursday, Jan. 25, at the Linder Fitness Center.

"It felt great. I thought our team came out with good energy, played with good energy throughout the match, got a lot of guys in later in the match when things were going our way," Jimmies head coach Travers Cox said. "We had a lot of stuff go our way so it was a good first start and now let's hope we can keep it going the next couple days."

The Jimmies (1-0) took an early 2-0 lead and did not trail through the remainder of the first set. The Jimmies got out to 19-12 lead before the Tigers fought back, cutting the deficit to 24-17, but it was too little too late as the Jimmies got the 25-17 first-set win.

Both teams hit the ball well in the first set as the Jimmies had 10 kills and only two errors and the Tigers had 12 kills and two errors.

The Tigers (0-1) scored the first point of the second set but the Jimmies responded with a quick run to take a 12-5 lead. The Jimmies kept it up from there, taking a 19-9 lead. The Jimmies eventually got a kill from Caydann Cox to get a 25-16 second-set win.

Through the three sets the Eagles' largest lead was 2-0 to start the third set. The Jimmies quickly responded though taking a 7-3 lead. The Jimmies kept it going and got 25-13 third-set win. The 12-point margin is the Jimmies' largest difference in a set since they outscored Ottawa University (KS.) 25-10 in the second set of a match on March 29, 2023.

The Jimmies had six players with at least one kill and had 13 players make an appearance.

"I got to see a little bit," Cox said. "It was good to see our offense in motion when we passed well. It was also good to see when weren't passing it well to see what we did. So for the most part our guys really kept their hitting errors down which was good."

The Jimmies return to the court at 1 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 26, when they take on Lourdes University.
