Jimmies men's basketball get tight 88-83 win over Morningside

Jan. 24—SIOUX CITY, Iowa. — The University of Jamestown men's basketball team showed off their toughness in an 88-83 win over No. 20-ranked Morningside University on Wednesday, Jan. 24, at the Mustangs' Allee Gymnasium.

The Jimmies faced an uphill climb from the start as they trailed 24-11 early and the Mustangs were able to stretch their lead out to as large as 16 points with just under ten minutes to go in the game at 31-15. The Jimmies' Spencer Barr hit a jumper to cut the deficit to 31-17 and that started a 16-2 Jimmies run to tie the game up at 33 with 2:40 to go in the first half. The Mustangs (14-5, 9-3) took the lead immediately after and headed into the intermission up 40-35.

The Jimmies (10-9, 5-6) started the second half on a 13-6 run to take their first lead of the day at 48-46. The visitors appeared to be well on their way to a blowout victory taking a 69-55 lead with 9:56 to go in the second half. However, just like the Jimmies, the Mustangs would not lie down as they responded with a bucket and an and-one to cut the deficit to 69-57. That started another big Mustangs run as they cut the deficit all the way down to 69-67. The Jimmies responded by stretching the lead out to seven points before the Mustangs came storming back to cut it to 83-80. However, the Jimmies were able to hold on from there.

The Jimmies shot 61.1% from the field in the game.

The Jimmies are back in action at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 29, when they go to Mount Marty University.
