Jimmies baseball splits doubleheader against Clarke, Baker

Feb. 24—KANSAS CITY, Ks. — The University of Jamestown baseball team was held to two hits in a 5-0 loss to Clarke University on Saturday, Feb. 24, at Baker University's Homefield Complex.

The Jimmies' first hit of the day came from Ryan Muizelaar in the second inning, and their second hit came from Isaiah Roebuck in the third inning on a triple.

The Pride (3-5) scored one in the fourth and one in the sixth before they blew the game open in the seventh when Brendan O'Connor hit a two run homer to push the lead to 4-0. They would add one more in the frame to get the 5-0 win.

The Jimmies returned to the diamond trying to bounce back in the second game of the doubleheader and they did just that, getting a 5-4 win over Baker University at the Wildcats' Homefield Complex.

The Jimmies (9-1) opened the scoring in the second thanks to a sacrifice fly from Jett Nelson to make it 1-0. Two batters later, the Jimmies doubled their lead to 2-0, and they would add one more in the frame to go up 3-0.

The Wildcats would cut into the deficit in the bottom of the frame with a two-run single to make it a 3-2 game where the game would stay until the fifth. The Jimmies manufactured another run in the fifth inning when Triston Madison hit a sac fly to center to score Chase Burke and push the lead out to 4-2.

The Wildcats would strike back again in the bottom of the fifth with a solo shot to cut the deficit to 4-3. The Jimmies would get the insurance run they needed in the seventh thanks to a solo shot of their own from Burke to push the lead out to 5-3.

Burke finished the day going 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs.

The Jimmies return to the diamond at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 25, when they take on Dakota State University.
