Jets re-sign Josh McCown to one-year deal

There won’t be a ninth NFL team for quarterback Josh McCown – at least not yet.

Via McCown’s agent, Mike McCartney, the 38-year old veteran has agreed to a one-year deal to remain with the New York Jets.

McCown will earn $10 million for the season, NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported.

(McCartney is also Kirk Cousins’ agent, so it’s been a busy day for him.)

With the Jets reportedly in talks with Teddy Bridgewater, it’s likely McCown will serve as the team’s backup quarterback in 2018.

McCown started the first 13 games of the season for the Jets last year, and the team was a surprising 5-7 as it went into its December 10 games in Denver. But McCown broke his left hand during the game, and while it was his non-throwing hand, he required season-ending surgery.

A 2002 draft pick of the Arizona Cardinals, McCown broke down in tears after the game, saying his injury sucked and lauding his teammates.

“It’s been the best because of the guys. Not numbers,” McCown said. “It’s been the best because of the guys in the locker room.”

And now he gets a chance to reunite with many of those same guys.
