Jets fail to takeoff, but here’s what we can takeaway from the loss

The New York Jets loss to the Bills in Week 1 was close but ultimately not enough from the Green and White as they fell 21-12. Overall, there were some positives as well as some negatives that came out of the loss. The Jets will need to remained focused on these major takeaways if they wish to rebound:

1: LB Inconsistencies:

The Jets backers didn’t have a fantastic day by any stretch. It was a scattered effort, having a really up and down day in the office as they were unable to cover the any of the Bills’ tight ends or get the running game going.

Darron Lee was replaced halfway through the second quarter as he finished with the lowest PFF grade for the defense with a mere 38.3. Not a good look for the former first round draft pick.

Also on the other end of the spectrum, Demario Davis flashed on the stat sheet, similiarly to what we had come to know during his former years in NY before, making 14 tackles on the day and having a half sack. Davis, however, found himself out of position on multiple plays throughout the day despite making headlines on the stat sheet. He let up many of the 10+ yard gains the Bills had on the day.

The coming week on the training field can hopefully rectify some of the mistakes in coverage from the guys in what is such a crucial position in today’s NFL landscape.

2: K/P Delight

Punter, Lachlan Edwards had an up and down preseason but he had his best game as a pro by far on Sunday with a 49.5 net. That also included 2 IN20 which flipped field position for the Jets and gave the defense a long field on every punt.

Newest Kicker, Chandler Catanzaro also had a day with two FG’s (48 & 52) as well as three kickoff TB’s showing the exact reason he got the job over Ross Martin.

3: Ealy shines, good look for Gang Green

The Jets signed Kony Ealy before last weekend’s 4th preseason game and since then it’s been all good signs.

Looking like a masterstroke 11th hour pickup from Maccagnan, Ealy had a great game on Sunday, getting off the blocks of the Bills tackles and ending the game with 4 tackles (1 TFL) 1 QB hit and three QB hurries.

Looks like a fantastic addition to the not-so-talented roster.
