Jaylen Brown to sign 5-year, $304 million contract extension with Celtics
All-NBA forward Jaylen Brown has reportedly come to terms on an extension with the Boston Celtics, and is set to ink a five-year deal worth $304 million. This marks the most lucrative contract in NBA history, and comes after a few weeks of negotiations between the two sides.
According to the Athletic’s Shams Charnia, this is a fully guaranteed deal for Brown. Importantly, Charania reported the contract does not include a player option in the fifth year, meaning Brown does not have an early opt-out. Likewise, the extension includes a trade kicker, making the possibility of the Celtics moving Brown before the contract expires a more expensive challenge. The new deal, which officially begins in the ’24-25 season, will see Brown under contract with the Celtics until ’28-29, and could see the Georgia native earning an annual salary north of $69 million.
Brown became eligible for a full supermax contract worth 35% of Boston’s salary cap this season when he earned All-NBA honors. His teammate and fellow All-Star Jayson Tatum could ink a similar deal as soon as next summer, and the Celtics may be poised for a long stretch of deep postseason runs.
