Jarin Stevenson picks Alabama basketball over UNC, Virginia

Alabama basketball's future front court added a significant piece Wednesday.

The Crimson Tide landed a commitment from Jarin Stevenson, a 6-foot-10, 210-pound power forward from Pittsboro, North Carolina. The 247Sports Composite lists him as a five-star prospect and the No. 3 power forward in the 2024 class.

Alabama coach Nate Oats landed Stevenson over in-state North Carolina and nearby Virginia. Alabama, UNC and Virginia made up the top three Stevenson announced earlier in June.

Stevenson was originally a member of the 2024 class, but he announced he will re-classify to 2023. That will make him immediately available to the Crimson Tide this season.

He brings much added size to the front court that Oats had the challenge of re-tooling once Charles Bediako surprised the staff and decided to stay in the NBA Draft. Stevenson joins Nick Pringle on the front court.

NDSU big Grant Nelson, who's listed at 6-foot-11, 235 pounds is also expected to commit to Alabama but he has not publicly announced his decision yet.

In addition to Bediako, the Crimson Tide lost significant length this offseason with Brandon Miller and Noah Clowney also declaring for the NBA Draft.

Along with Stevenson, Pringle and likely Nelson, Alabama also has decent length in freshmen signees Sam Walters (6-8) and Mouhamed Dioubate (6-7).

With the incorporation of Stevenson and likely Nelson, that would leave one scholarship open for Oats. It's possible he decides to fill it, but there's also a good chance he opts to leave it open.
