Jared Goff thanks Rams, fans in farewell note to Los Angeles: 'It's been an honor'
Jared Goff is “forever grateful” to the city of Los Angeles. Goff penned a heartfelt goodbye to the city, the Rams and the team’s fans Wednesday as Goff prepares to join the Detroit Lions.
In his note, Goff thanks the “Kroenke family, my coaches, my support staff, and most importantly, my teammates” for the support he received the past five years.

Goff also thanked the fans for supporting him “through all the ups and downs.” He called it “an honor to represent the city of LA.”
Jared Goff leaves Rams after five seasons
Goff’s tenure with the Rams included plenty of ups and downs. After being selected as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2016 NFL draft, Goff looked like a colossal bust during his rookie season. In seven games, Goff completed just 54.6 percent of his passes for five touchdowns and seven interceptions.
The hiring of Sean McVay did wonders for Goff and the Rams’ offense. Goff completely reversed the narrative about his rookie season during his second year, completing 62.1 percent of his passes and throwing 28 touchdowns against seven interceptions. That performance earned Goff his first Pro Bowl selection.
The Rams’ dominant offense carried over the following year. Goff again made the Pro Bowl and helped lead the Rams to the Super Bowl. The team came up short against the New England Patriots in that contest.
Following that loss, the Rams’ offense took a step back. Goff remained an effective quarterback, though there were some questions about his upside. Despite that, the Rams still signed Goff to a four-year, $134 million extension in 2019.
The team didn’t want to see that deal through, sending Goff, two first-round draft picks and a third-round selection to the Lions for Matthew Stafford.

At the end of his note, Goff told Lions fans he’s excited to join their team. Goff said he “couldn’t be more excited for this next chapter.”
It’s not the first time Goff has expressed happiness over the deal. Shortly after the trade was completed, Goff told Sports Illustrated he was happy to be on a team that wanted him.
Goff will spend next season trying to prove the Rams made a mistake in giving up on him. The Lions hold the No. 7 pick in the 2021 draft, and could look to bulk up Goff’s offensive line or give Goff another playmaker to make his job easier.
