Jaguars vs. Steelers predictions: Do NFL experts think Jags can win 5 in a row?

The Jacksonville Jaguars have one more game before their bye week. To finish the first half of the 2023 season with a five-game win streak, they'll have to beat the Pittsburgh Steelers on the road.

The Jags are 5-2 and atop the AFC South after their 31-24 win last Thursday over the New Orleans Saints. Trevor Lawrence's status was in doubt heading into that game, but his knee looked just fine as he threw for 204 yards and a touchdown while also running for a season-high 59 yards. Travis Etienne also kept up his hot streak, running for two TDs for the third week in a row.

Mike Tomlin has the Steelers at 4-2 despite a highly suspect offense. They looked good at the end of last week's 24-17 win over the Los Angeles Rams, though, with Kenny Pickett and George Pickens connecting on some big plays and Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren running for a touchdown apiece. T.J. Watt built on his Defensive Player of the Year résumé with an interception to set up the Steelers' first touchdown of the game.

Who builds on their winning streak? Here's a look at what NFL reporters and analysts predict will happen:

Lorenzo Reyes, USA TODAY: Jags 21-20

"The Steelers are a bit all over the place at times, but under Mike Tomlin always bring a ton of effort. The Jaguars are quietly becoming a contender in the AFC, but are just 1-2 against the spread at home. I’m bullish on Pittsburgh covering, and can even see a potential upset, especially at home."

Vinnie Iyer, Sporting News: Jags 24-20 (Game of the Week)

"This one is a fun matchup between two emerging AFC powers. Trevor Lawrence is locked in with Travis Etienne and all of his weapons and the Jaguars' defense has been a turnover-forcing machine. Kenny Pickett is playing better with more of his key support and T.J. Watt and friends are doing major damage for the Steelers' defense. This is really tough to call, but Lawrence's arm and athleticism can help him grind to make more big plays than Pickett."

Pete Prisco, CBS Sports: Jags 24-20

"The Jaguars have won four straight and will be rested some after playing last Thursday. Pittsburgh has played better on offense the past few games, which it had to do. Both defenses have played well, but I will go with the better offense. Jacksonville takes it as Trevor Lawrence outplays Kenny Pickett."

Ian Hanford, Bleacher Report: Steelers win

The Bleacher Report panel was split, with three picking Pittsburgh and four taking Jacksonville. "Kenny Pickett and the Steelers offense will need to build on the rhythm they found in Los Angeles as the Jaguars are likely going to put up some points here," wrote Hanford. "But the Jags defense can be had through the air, as it is surrendering the second-most passing yards per game in the entire league. The Steelers are 4-0 this season when George Pickens has at least 75 yards receiving. Look for that to become 5-0 as Pickens has another productive day and the Steelers win."

Mike Florio, Pro Football Talk: Jags 24-13

"The Steelers will find a way to win enough games to get to the playoffs. But not this week."

Tom Blair, NFL.com: Steelers 22-20

Blair was one of two members of the NFL.com's five-person panel to back Pittsburgh. "Finishing with fewer total yards than the other guys is not exactly a proven path to success, but the Steelers are making it work," Blair said. "They're the fifth team in NFL history to post a winning record through their first six games in a season despite being outgained in every contest. I tried to talk myself out of backing Kenny Pickett over Trevor Lawrence. In the end, I think the Steelers will give Lawrence just enough trouble — and the Jags' 31st-ranked pass defense will give Pickett just enough breathing room — to tip things in Pittsburgh's favor at home.

Bill Bender, Sporting News: Jags 24-21

"The Jaguars are a road favorite at Pittsburgh. The Steelers are 2-1 S/U at home, but they need a more consistent running game behind Kenny Pickett. Trevor Lawrence is 2-0 as a starter in true road games this season, and the Jaguars will get enough support in a tight road test."

John Breech, CBS Sports: Jags 27-24

"The big problem for the Steelers is actually two problems: They've struggled to stop both the pass and the run this year. The Steelers defense is surrendering 383.5 yards per game, which is the third-most in the NFL, which means the Jaguars offense might have a big day. I was torn on this game, but I've talked myself into jumping on the Jaguars bandwagon. Hopefully, I get to sit next to this guy."

Chris Simms, Pro Football Talk: Jags 28-20
