Jaguars reportedly cut defensive tackle Foley Fatukasi, save $3.5 million toward salary cap

According to ESPN reporter Jeremy Fowler, the Jacksonville Jaguars are releasing defensive tackle Foley Fatukasi from the team. The move will reportedly save $3.5 million toward the team's salary cap.

Fatukasi joined Jacksonville as a free agent in 2022, signing a three-year deal worth $30 million, with $20 million in guaranteed money. The club restructured his deal last offseason to free cap space — saving the team nearly $6 million.

He appeared in 30 games, recording 48 total tackles, five quarterback hits, four pass deflections and 1.5 sacks in two years with the team.

Despite dealing with injury issues, he played an average of 43% of snaps for Jacksonville over the last two years.

Free agency: With Mike Evans re-signed, will Jaguars' Calvin Ridley be top wideout on the open market?

He was relied upon heavily last season when defensive lineman DaVon Hamilton was sidelined with a back injury that kept him out for the first seven weeks of the season.

But ultimately, Fatukasi and the interior defensive line were seen as underperformers for the Jaguars. With free agency and the NFL draft looming, Jacksonville will look for a replacement to bolster their defensive front.

The team will still have to pay $9,269,334 in dead money to Fatutkasi, per Over The Cap. But now the team saves money, which they can use toward retooling the roster for the future.
