Jags' Ramsey is complimentary but defiant following showdown with Tyreek Hill

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — In the first quarter of the Kansas City Chiefs’ 30-14 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday, the Chiefs attempted a deep ball to Tyreek Hill, who had Jaguars cornerback Jalen Ramsey draped all over him.

The pass fell incomplete, and Ramsey — who is no wallflower, by any means — started talking as Hill jogged back to the huddle.

After a week of trash talk through the media — with Hill saying Ramsey “thinks high of himself” and is “alright, I guess” and Ramsey noting that Hill went to the Pro Bowl as a return specialist, not as a receiver – this was the matchup people wanted to see, as Ramsey traveled with Hill throughout the course of the game.

Hill — who possesses blinding 4.24 speed — finished with four catches for 61 yards, including a 36-yard gain in which he beat Ramsey on a go-ball in press coverage, which you rarely see against one of the NFL’s most athletic corners.

“I love a challenge,” Hill said. “No matter who it is, I’m always going to step up to the plate. I’m going to win some, he’s going to win some, we’re both pros, that’s what it’s about.”

Ramsey felt good about his performance.

“I felt like I did pretty well – really well to be honest, I held my own,” Ramsey said. “But it doesn’t matter.”

That’s because the Chiefs (5-0) dealt the Jaguars (3-2) a loss, though Ramsey made it clear afterward that despite their verbal sparring during the week, the two are on solid terms.

“No issue — Tyreek and I are cool,” Ramsey said. “I’ve been a Tyreek fan since he came in. Last week, I was surprised at his words, and then — when I talked to him after the game — he was like, ‘I said you were great.’ But, everyone knows what he kind of said, so I had to take a shot back at him.

“But you know, I respect him as a player.”
