Jags can begin interviewing GM candidates from other NFL teams Monday
The Jacksonville Jaguars ownership tandem has made good use of their time so far when it comes to their general manager search, interviewing roughly a handful of candidates outside of the league so far. However, when their season finale against the Indianapolis Colts is over, they will be able to kick the process into overdrive.
Due to the rules laid out by the NFL, they can’t interview executives and assistants who work for the league’s other 31 teams until the regular season concludes. That date will officially occur on Jan. 4 as all of the league’s 2020 regular-season contests will be in the books by Sunday night.
The NFL changed its rules in terms of the interview process for head coach candidates in the league and allowed the interview process to begin for them on Dec. 22. However, the Jags still have Doug Marrone as their head coach, though that might change shortly, too.
Back in early December, the NFL released a memo stating that interviews with assistants who are in the playoffs will be done virtually for the sake of eliminating exposure to COVID-19. However, when the candidate’s team is no longer in the playoffs, in-person interviews can be conducted.
The memo also stated that interviewees would be subject to COVID-19 testing requirements when traveling outside of their cities. Additionally, they are required to comply with local, state, and federal protocols when it comes to quarantine and testing.
The Jags parted ways with their former general manager, Dave Caldwell, on Nov. 29 after they were defeated by the Cleveland Browns. They also named Trent Baalke their interim general manager in the process.
Some of the top names for Jags fans to keep an eye on are Mike Borgonzi of the Kansas City Chiefs, Ed Dodds of the Indianapolis Colts, Joe Hortiz of the Baltimore Ravens, and Dave Ziegler of the New England Patriots to name a few.
