Who is Jacksonville's backup QB? 11 things to know about C.J. Beathard

Trevor Lawrence has finally had one injury too many. Now C.J. Beathard will be the quarterback for the Jacksonville Jaguars in a crucial Week 17 game against the Carolina Panthers.

Lawrence will miss a game for the first time in his NFL career after he sprained his shoulder in a 30-12 loss December 24 to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The franchise quarterback was shoved out of bounds in the second half with the Jags trailing by 30 points.

It was the latest in a string of injuries for Lawrence amid Jacksonville's four-game losing streak. He sprained his knee against the Indianapolis Colts on October 15. On December 4, he suffered a high ankle sprain when offensive tackle Walker Little stepped on his foot against the Cincinnati Bengals. Then he entered the concussion protocol after playing the Baltimore Ravens on December 17.

The shoulder injury was finally too much for Lawrence. That means it's up to Beathard, the former Iowa quarterback who started his NFL career with the San Francisco 49ers, to stop the Jaguars' recent slide and maintain its lead in the AFC South with two weeks to go.
