Jackrabbits basketball fans in Sioux Falls-area will have a chance to see their favorite team a little closer to home when the South Dakota State men take on the Towson Tigers in December at the Sanford Pentagon in a non-conference matchup.

The Dec. 1 game will be the 19th time SDSU will play at the Sanford Pentagon, but the first time Towson plays on Heritage Court.

“To have the opportunity to play at the Sanford Pentagon once again is extremely exciting. We are looking forward to facing a quality opponent in Towson in one of the premiere college basketball venues in the country,” said head coach Eric Henderson via a press release. “We are thankful for our partnership with Sanford and their shared interest in having the Jackrabbits play at the Pentagon. We can’t wait to fill the Pentagon again in blue!”

South Dakota State is coming off a 19-13 season in which the team advanced to the semifinals of the Summit League Tournament.

The Jackrabbits have three players that earn Summit League honors returning from last season. Zeke Mayo was selected to the  All-Summit League First Team, while Matt Mims and Williams Kyle III were selected to the All-Defensive Team and the All-Newcomer Team.

Jesse Smith said in the press release there is always a special energy inside the Pentagon when a local program like SDSU plays.

Towson is a member of the Colonial Athletic Association. The team has now won 20 games in back-to-back seasons. They’ve also made it to the semifinals in their conference tournament in back-to-back years.

“We are excited to play in the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, which annually hosts outstanding non-conference college basketball games,” Towson head coach Pat Skerry said. “The challenge of playing South Dakota State, who has won 49 games over the last two seasons, will absolutely prepare us for CAA play later in the year.”

This year’s contest will mark the first meeting between SDSU and Towson.

Ticket information and game time will be announced later.
