Ja Morant calls himself a 'point god,' but it's about more than just him

Ja Morant knows who he is. The former Murray State star and soon-to-be NBA lottery pick has given himself a title that he feels fully describes who he is and what he tries to do on the court.

When Morant recently sat down with Yahoo Sports’ Chris Haynes, he called himself a “point god.” And why is that? Because he has “the ability to not only make plays for me, but also my teammates.”

Talent is only part of the story with Morant, a projected lottery pick. It helped Murray State find him as an under-the-radar recruit, but to give the kind of unforgettable and epic performance he gave in the NCAA tournament, there has to be more. And there is.

As Morant told Haynes, being a “point god” is about being there for your teammates. So he studies them so he can know what their strengths are and where they like to shoot from. He puts in the time and the work to make himself better, and to make sure he’s giving his teammates what they need to succeed.

Morant’s life is about to change forever. In less than two months he’ll be drafted by an NBA team and he’ll start to find out how the “point god” fits on an NBA team. With the dedication he has to making everyone around him better, it’s hard to see anything but a bright future.
