IUK sports roundup for Monday, Oct. 9

Oct. 9—The IU Kokomo volleyball team made it 14 straight wins by beating Alice Lloyd College in a River States Conference match on Saturday at Pippa Passes, Kentucky.

The NAIA No. 18-ranked Cougars made quick work of the Eagles for a 3-0 win. The set scores were 25-8, 25-12, 25-12.

Tori Wilkinson led IUK's attack with eight kills, Lexi Broyles floored seven kills and Mia Niekamp had five. Kaley Lyons distributed 26 assists and Allison Richman had 14 assists. Audrey Strawsma served four aces.

Alyvia Smith led the defense with 13 digs.

IUK (19-3 overall, 10-0 RSC) visits St. Xavier in Chicago on Wednesday for its final non-conference matchup of the regular season.

WOMEN'S SOCCER

IUK beat Ohio Christian 5-0 in an RSC match Saturday at Circleville, Ohio.

Kelsi Hoot and Kendra Brewer scored two goals apiece and Keely Hoopingarner also scored. Cassie Dispennett and Ashlyn Morefield had an assist apiece and 'keepers Sydney Miller and Alicia Burns combined for four saves.

Winners of four straight, the Cougars are 6-3-4 overall and 4-0-1 in league play. They return to the pitch Thursday at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College.

WOMEN'S GOLF

Led by individual medalist Sarah Williams, the IUK women's golf team took second place in the Brescia's Bearcat Invitational at the Pearl Club in Owensboro, Kentucky.

The Cougars had team scores of 346 and 346 for a two-round total of 692. Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College won the title with a score of 664.

Williams parred the final six holes of her second round to force a playoff. The Cougar senior clinched the playoff victory with a par on the second playoff hole.

The Cougars will close out their fall season with a trip to Silvis, Illinois, for the TPC John Deere Invitational at the prestigious TPC Deere Run on Oct. 16-17.
