Ironman Patrick Lange had himself a Saturday.

First the German did something he’s used to doing – winning world championships. Lange won his second straight Ironman World Championship Triathlon in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, in a course record 7:52:39.

It was eight minutes faster than the 8:01:40 course record he set last year when he won the title.

Most of us would stop there and call it a productive Saturday. But Lange wasn’t satisfied. As a reporter tried to conduct a post-competition interview, Lange, clad in a lei, walked over to his girlfriend in the crowd. He then proposed to her as the crowd burst into applause.

He then collapsed in what was probably a mixture of exhaustion and relief.

All of this happened before second-place finisher Bart Aernouts even crossed the finish line. Aernouts finished four minutes after Lange and arrived it seems just after the proposal.

No pressure indeed.
