Iowa vs. Colorado: Predictions, picks and odds for women's Sweet 16 March Madness game

The 2024 women's NCAA Tournament is down to the Sweet 16 round. Today's action continues in Albany Regional 2 with the No. 1 seed Iowa Hawkeyes taking on No. 5 Colorado Buffaloes.

Iowa's reached the Sweet 16 for the fourth year in a row behind star Caitlin Clark once again. She leads the country in points (31.8) and assists (8.8) per game and has continued that play in the tournament. She put up 27 points, eight rebounds, and 10 assists in the win over Holy Cross and 32-8-3 in the win over West Virginia in the second round. Iowa hasn't played a ranked team like Colorado since their regular season finale.

Colorado's road to the Sweet 16 included an 86-72 win over Drake in the first round and a 63-50 upset of Kansas State in the second round. Leading scorer Aaronette Vonleh led the way in both wins, notching a combined 27 points and 18 rebounds over the two games.

This is the eighth time these two programs have faced off. Iowa leads the series 4-3 and the Hawkeyes won the previous matchup 87-77 in last year's Sweet 16.

Iowa vs. Colorado predictions

Fort Collins Coloradoan: Iowa 72, Colorado 67

Scott Procter says: "Jaylyn Sherrod will have her hands full with Clark and Colorado will need a balanced offensive effort with contributions off the bench. Iowa, on the other hand, doesn't necessarily need that to win thanks to Clark. If this one ends up in crunch time, it's hard to believe that Clark won't make a game-winning play, either for herself or for a teammate."

Des Moines Register's Hawk Central: Iowa's the favorite

Gus Martin writes: "Teams that have given Iowa fits all season have done so with physical, aggressive defense, and Colorado will need to bring that approach to the Sweet 16 if it's to pull off the upset. On the other side, Iowa has yet to play its best brand of basketball this tournament, so the Hawkeyes could be due for a hot 3-point shooting night or a Clark 40-point game."

The Athletic: Iowa wins

Chantel Jennings writes, "Outside of Clark, the Hawkeyes shot 0 of 17 on 3-pointers against the Mountaineers, but don’t expect that cold spell to last too long. Colorado has its own 3-point shooting weapons in Frida Formann and Maddie Nolan (who are both 42-plus percent long-range shooters), but that might not be enough against a Hawkeyes arsenal eager to prove they’re much better than their last outing."
