Iowa City Regina announced Dustin Elsbury as its new head football coach on Wednesday.

Elsbury was a recent member of Regina's coaching staff, working with multiple position groups, including the offensive line, defensive line and linebackers. Prior to Regina, Elsbury was an assistant coach for Coe College, his alma mater. He also currently serves as the head strength and conditioning coach, assistant wrestling coach and assistant track coach.

"We are ecstatic to have coach Elsbury step into his new role of head varsity football coach," Regina Activities Director Taylor Hotek said in a statement. "We believe that under Dustin's leadership, Regina Football will continue its tradition of excellence."

Elsbury will now be responsible for leading a Regina football program that's made 12 state championship appearances and won eight total state titles, including six straight from 2010-2015.

"I am honored and excited to lead the Regina Football program," Elsbury said in a statement. "Regina has a rich history of success, and I am committed to building on that legacy."

Elsbury assumes the role of head coach after the retirement of longtime coach Jason Dumont in early November.

The Regals finished last season with a 9-2 record, losing to MFL MarMac in the state quarterfinals. They will open their 2024 season against West Liberty on Aug. 30.
