Introducing the Herald-Tribune 2024 All-Area Girls Tennis Team
At the end of each season, The Herald-Tribune selects All-Area teams honoring the best athletes for every sport. Coaches from Sarasota and Manatee County schools are sent nomination forms and are asked to nominate and rate their athletes as well as those from other teams. That data combined with The Herald-Tribune's research led to the selection of the All-Area teams.
FIRST TEAM
Weronika DeLong
School: Venice
Year: Senior
Highlights: Finished with a singles record of 12-3 and a doubles record of 12-4. In singles, lost in the district final to Riverview's Julia Piotrowska. Teamed with Christine Wu, lost in the district final to Piotrowski and Molly Dillon.
Koreena Hickey
School: Venice
Year: Freshman
Highlights: Finished with an overall record of 21-1, going 18-1 in singles and 3-0 in doubles. At No. 4 singles, defeated Riverview's Kathleen Siddons in the district final.
Joy Jia
School: Venice
Year: Sophomore
Highlights: Finished with an overall record of 19-1, her only loss coming at No. 3 singles. Defeated Riverview's Amelia Hilton at No. 3 singles in the district final.
Julia Piotrowska
School: Riverview
Year: Junior
Highlights: Finished with an overall record of 8-3. As a single, defeated Venice's Weronika DeLong in the district final. Teamed with Molly Dillon, defeated DeLong and Christine Wu in the district final. At the 4A state championship, lost in the semifinal round
Chukwunoneeru Smarty
School: Braden River
Year: Freshman
Highlights: Finished with an overall record of 19-0, 10-0 in singles, and 9-0 in doubles. At the 3A state meet, defeated Jessica McLean of Pembroke Pines to win the individual title.
Christine Wu
School: Venice
Year: Junior
Highlights: Finished with an overall record of 24-4, 13-0 at singles, and 11-4 at doubles. As a No. 2 single, defeated Riverview's Molly Dillion in the district final. Teamed with Weronika DeLong, lost to Riverview's Julia Piotrowska and Molly Dillon in the district final.

COACH OF THE YEAR
Wayne Robertson
School: Venice
Highlights: Led the Venice girls team to an overall record of 18-1, with three of his players winning individual district titles. Venice won the Class 4A-8 district title by three points over Riverview. Venice lost to Steinbrenner in the quarterfinals of the 4A state tournament.
