Inter Miami re-signs former attacking player Indiana Vassilev from Aston Villa

Miami announced Thursday morning that it re-acquired Indiana Vassilev on a season-long loan from English club Aston Villa. The attacking player returns to the club after a loan stint with Miami in 2021.

“We’re very excited to bring Indiana back to Inter Miami. He left a fantastic impression both on and off the pitch last season, and we’re thrilled to see him return,” said chief soccer officer and sporting director Chris Henderson. “We’re always looking to improve, and we feel Indiana will help strengthen our options across a number of positions in attack and midfield.”

Vassilev, 21, made 21 appearances for Inter Miami and started seven games. He scored three goals, including a late winner in a 2-1 win over Eastern Conference opponent Nashville SC.

Following his loan with Inter Miami in 2021, Vassilev enjoyed a productive start to 2022 with Aston Villa’s U-23 side, scoring two goals and dishing out an assist in five Premier League 2 games.

Inter Miami could use another attacking player, as Gonzalo Higuain, Robbie Robinson and Leo Campana have all dealt with injuries this season. Miami plays at Charlotte FC on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
