Indiana high school soccer: Vote for the August Play of the Month!

Cathedral Fighting Irish Eliza Langfeldt (4) rushes after the ball during the game against the Bishop Chatard Trojans on Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2022, at Bishop Chatard High School in Indianapolis.

We're barely a third of the way through the high school soccer season and there's already been a year's worth of highlight-reel plays. Thanks to today's technology, there's video evidence of basically all these terrific plays, so we thought it would be fun to do a Play of the Month poll! (It's like Players of the Week, except with exceptional plays.)

Check out the plays below, then cast your vote at the bottom of the story! Voting is open until Friday, 12:01 p.m. EST (so as to not conflict with POTW, you know?).

Goals, saves and PKs: Vote for IHSAA soccer players of the week (Aug. 28-Sept. 2)

Here are your August highlights.

Brownsburg's Hailey Hoskins vs. Bishop Chatard

Aug. 12: The captain started her senior year with a left-footed game-winner from a seemingly impossible angle against the Trojans.

Carmel's Christian Nielsen vs. Zionsville

Aug. 12: Nielsen was basically parallel with the goal line when he curled in a low-range shot from the right post.

Noblesville's Caden Rice vs. Perry Meridian

Aug. 15: A series of one-touch passes leading to a crossing pass into the box, where Rice caps the sequence with a midair full volley strike, a term that's just as fun to type out as it is to envision.

Noblesville's Sam Holland vs. Carmel

Aug. 17: The soccer version of a pick-and-roll, Holland seals off a defender at the top of the box on a set piece, then spins around and navigates through a mess of defenders to get his head on the ball.

FW Blackhawk Christian's Elliott Zimmerman vs. Concordia Lutheran

Aug. 19: The ball bounced around the box a few times before floating towards Zimmerman who was standing just in front of the penalty area. He bicycle kicked it in.

Marion's Mason Delgado vs. Columbia City

Aug. 21: Delgado deposited a free kick from about 14 yards out across the field and into the left side of the goal with five minutes left, forcing a 1-1 draw.

Cathedral's Eliza Langfeldt vs. Fishers

Aug. 21: A cross towards the top of the box deflected over towards the senior captain, who — in one smooth motion — volleyed the ball to herself and kicked it into the back of the net, all with her right foot.

Westfield's Talia Whitesel vs. New Palestine

Aug. 21: Whitesel unleashed a wicked shot from about 30-35 yards out, arching it well-beyond the goalie's reach and pocketing it inside the far post.

Brebeuf Jesuit's Lily Blackman vs. Bishop Chatard

Aug. 22: Blackman got all the way up-and-over to deny Chatard on a set piece attempt that appeared destined to end up in the back of the net.

Bishop Chatard's Olivia Hill vs. Brebeuf Jesuit

Aug. 22: Hill made it all the way up to tip a penalty kick over the crossbar and preserve a 2-2 tie with the Braves. Chatard eventually won in penalties.

Brownsburg's Natalie Hay vs. Hamilton Southeastern

Aug. 23: Hay redirected a rainbow cross into the middle of the box off her head, over the goalkeeper and under the crossbar, all while standing on the ground.

Kokomo's Flory Bidunga vs. West Lafayette

Aug. 29: Playing the most beautiful game for the first time as a high schooler, the Kokomo basketball superstar scored his fifth goal of the season, twisting his body and flinging a header into the back of the net.

Zionsville's Arron Habecker vs. Westfield

Aug. 29: Habecker roped a shot from the top of the box, through traffic and into the top right corner, just out of the goalkeeper's reach.

Lawrence North's Nahum Mendez vs. Plainfield

Aug. 29: Mendez sailed a shot over basically the entire Plainfield defense and the goalie from 40 yards out.

Hamilton Heights' Phoenix Vondersaar vs. Anderson

Aug. 29: Vondersaar went all the way up and used his noggin to redirect a crossing pass to the far post into the goal.

Whiteland's Alexa LaPorte vs. Decatur Central

Aug. 30: Nicknamed "Tank," LaPorte scored twice against the Hawks, including this Olimpico goal from the far corner.
